Question 2

Q: I must confess that I'm a little perplexed. There are stores of the type I want to operate from 1,500 square feet to 10,000 square feet. How do I determine the proper size for my store? Not only that, there are so many places I could locate my new store how do I determine which is best?

A: This is a very interesting question and one that few prospective retailers spend enough time considering. They often take whatever location is made available to them without giving it any serious thought. I think it is of the utmost importance that the storeowner has a good idea of how much he expects, or better yet needs to earn, before determining store size. I know of no one that has explained this process in as reasonable and interesting a fashion as you will find here in what I like to call my section on "Working the Planning Process Backwards." You will be amazed at this explanation and unique perspective! The treatment of these questions will help you become more comfortable with the fact that you have satisfactory answers to both your size and location questions. Don't make a big mistake.
